Coldplay had a sold-out show at
Riverbend tonight, but nobody I work with has heard of them. It's crazy! One guy asked me who was comparably famous that he might have heard of so he could decide how big they are. I couldn't think of anyone. It's not because Coldplay is so amazingly famous or anything, I just couldn't think of another (recent) band that has gotten so big after just three albums. Any ideas?

Haha, what a doof! They're in the billboard top 10 after 8 weeks, and they were at #1. Tell him they are bigger than the Blak Eyed Peas.
A recent band? No. Although, I dig those chicken head guys in the Burger King commercial (Operative word "commercial"). Groups with recent(and good)albums off the top of my head: Destiny's Child. Kind of mad COLDPLAY isn't too popular in the newsroom. Vondo must have been off or something. :)
I went to the show and it was fantastic! They did all the cheesy, crowd-pleasing things -- tossing yellow balloons and confetti down at the crowd during "Yellow," Chris Martin running around the place and climbing rafters during the encore, personalized lyrics about Cincinnati, etc. -- the band was tight and the lights were great.
I'm not the world's biggest Coldplay fan, but I didn't dislike them either. Their show totally won me over.
My friend Kristy works at a daycare at Chelsea Piers in New York. Yesterday, they took the kids out to play soccer . . . and Chris Martin and the rest of Coldplay strolled onto the field to kick the ball around with them. Shit you not.
