Want some free music?

If you're into indie rock or old jazz, take this link to emusic.com and sign up for 100 free downloads. You'll need a credit card to register, but there's no charge for a month. The 100 downloads you get are yours forever for free and they work easily with iTunes. They're just mp3s so there's no crazy restrictions on them.

I will admit I looked into emusic.com about a year ago and didn't find much I liked. Since then they've added a lot of great new stuff and I instantly used my downloads to get nine new albums. You can get the new releases from Cat Power, TV On The Radio, The Heartless Bastards, Neko Case, Spoon and Joanna Newsom. If you don't know who any of those people are, emusic might not be for you. If you got excited by that list, then you should go there right away.

I know this might sound like a bit of a commercial but I just want my loyal readers to get free music - especially when it's good music. Need a suggestion of what to get? Just ask.

Gaaaaahhhhh...how can I complain about all those free tunes? It's too awesome, I can't. So, even though it just cost me the last hour of my life, thanks Eileen. You're pretty cool I guess.

Let me know if you like Cat Power, I've got that waiting in the wings. So far, I've downloaded Talib Kweli, Hi-Tek, Camera Obscura, and an RJD2 mix. And I've got 48 tracks left. Oh man, what to do - what to do...

Do you mean the Hi-Tek that's from The 'Nati? You'll have to tell me how that is.

I haven't checked out Cat Power yet, but I'll let you know. I've only got 2 downloads left but I think I might stick with a monthly plan for awhile. $15 buck for 50 downloads sounds pretty good.

I always really think I'm going to like Cat Power, and then I get the album and I remember that her voice colors everything possibly even more thoroughly than Björk's. And I like Cat Power's voice, but on the other hand, I kind of wish it would change sometimes. The new album is still pretty good, though.

Dude, this is still pretty awesome. I just don't know what 100 songs I need and whether I'll be able to pick them in a month. My iPod is already full as it is, and holding a lot of songs I've only listened to once.

Eileen, do you have Silent Alarm by Bloc Party? Because I am totally embarrassed that it escaped my notice in 2005 (a sign that I am now 30), but willing to admit to my embarrassment to mention it, because that is a great album. You should get it. Shawn, you should too. And also everyone else.

Yup...'Nati's own. There's even some line about the 'Nati.

I like this album so far. A lot less gansta and rat-a-tat-tat than I thought it would be. I've only had a chance to listen to about half of it so far, but I'm going to put it on while I'm working tonight.

I was thinkin' about doing the same plan. It's a really, really good deal.

Thanks for the idea Josh. I've got a bunch of tracks left to download, so that might just be the ticket.

Josh, I have both the regular Bloc Party album and the remix album. You are so old, dude.

You should also check out the new Hold Steady album. I wasn;t sure if I was gonna like it but I really kinda do. I just got The Pippettes album, too. I think it will be good.
